Dribbleglass and an Internet Icon

Dribbleglass and an Internet Icon

Hip HopDribbleglass.com is not only one of the funniest sites out of Las Vegas, it is renowned as ‘The Internet’s Official Humor Site’. This hilariously funny site is legandary for it’s billboards, but is also filled with jokes, trivia and useless facts. The billboard section is my absolute favorite, with my sides in pain from laughter after looking through the latest work. Besides being an Internet Icon, Scott Roeben, the creator of Dribbleglass, is also a phenomenal childrens’ photographer.

If you can break away from laughing at the billboards on www.dribbleglass.com, take a minute to check out his brilliant work at www.scottroebenphotography.com

RAGBRAI 2009

RAGBRAI 2009

Ragbrai 2009 is over.  Another year of fun, fitness, socialization and food has come to an end. I love Ragbrai! It is a wonderful combination of the expected and unexpected. You can always count on great people, delicious food, seemingly limitless amounts to drink and many many hills. As for the unexpected, you never know when the next party is going to pop up, where the next pond is going to be or when the next naked guy will run out of the corn field to dive on to the beer slide. This is Ragbrai!

Despite riding in the rain, the weather was nearly perfect. The rain is never bad when it allows you to have an impromptu cattle trailer party (see pictures). Where else could someone come up with the lyrics to ‘Row row motorboat’? Being wet, cold and tired is only a disaster if you are out of beer.

I became good friends with the mobile bike shops for the second year in a row. My two year old Motobecane Sprint broke down more than it did last year. I had it in the shop nearly every day. The Motobecane is going straight on Craigslist or eBay when I get back to Las Vegas. Letsche’s Bike Shop out of Cherokee, Iowa deserves a big pat on the back for helping me out so many times this year.

I want to especially thank all of my Ragbrai friends, new and old. The people are what make this event so addicting.

Yes… They’re Real!

Yes… They’re Real!

How about 3 dollars? We have all have those moments.  We spot something and the thought that pops into our head is “What were they thinking?”.  As a photographer, I have the distinct privilege of being able to catch these moments for all to see.  The back story to this “What were they thinking?” moment begins on Fremont Street .

Yes... They're Real. While scouting out photo opportunities with the Sin City Life resident advice columnist and editor, Heddie, we were sought out by Mr. Cowboy Hat to take a picture of him with Ms. Yes They’re Real (as stated on her shirt).  Las Vegas is notorious for these photography request incidents, as everyone wants their 15 minutes.  I oblige these requests, take the photos, follow with the ever-cool thumbs up and end up dropping most of the images into the trash once they have been downloaded to my MacBook.

Mr. Cowboy Hat informed my coworker and I that Ms. Yes They’re Real had just flashed him for one of the dollars he had managed to avoid sliding into a slot machine.  Seeing my camera equipment, Ms. Yes They’re Real became somewhat shy.  Using the same type of behavior usually reserved for attempting to get flirtation time with toothless waitresses in small town dive bars, Mr. Cowboy Hat upped the ante to a whopping three Washington ’s.

Not wanting to lose the nice dinner Heddie and I had just consumed at Hennessey, we did not stay for the conclusion, but capturing the bartering was more than enough for us.  I can only hope that everyone got what they wanted and that few people were subjected to the inevitable resuming of flashing that was bound to ensue once the camera was no longer on them.

Here is the link to the rest of the pics from that night.

Otherwise at Wasted Space

Otherwise at Wasted Space

Last night, Otherwise headlined at Wasted Space in the Hard Rock. With their large following of fans and stellar performance, they did not disappoint. Wasted Space is one of my favorite venues for a smaller concert. It is large enough for a decent amount of people, but intimate enough to feel like you are at an exclusive performance. As usual, the members of Otherwise stayed to party with their fans. Not only did they sound incredible on stage, just getting to hang out with this great bunch of guys is worth coming to their shows. Below are some pictures from the evening.

2009 AIDS Walk – People helping people.

2009 AIDS Walk – People helping people.

Today was the 19th year that AFAN (Aid for AIDS of Nevada) has put on the AIDS Walk here in Las Vegas. Led by the Marshals, Penn and Teller, individual and teams walked for two miles to raise money and increase public awareness.

Last year, more than 7,000 people walked raising over $550,000. Even in these difficult economic times, we were able to raise an astounding $440,000 this year. Today there is newfound hope in the fight against the disease, but there is still no cure. Some people with HIV/AIDS are living longer thanks to new therapies. Tragically, the new treatments do not work for everyone, and HIV continues to spread at an alarming rate.

If you did not have a chance to join us this year, please show your support in 2010.
